CASE STUDY: ChemGrout CG570 – Arncliffe Station Upgrade

Key Features

  • Improve access between Arncliffe Street and Wollongong Road
  • Increase connectivity for residents to shops, schools and public transport
  • Urban enhancement to the northern side of the Allen Street underpass

Background

To improve pedestrian access in the Arncliffe area, the NSW Government constructed a pedestrian link underneath the rail line of Allen Street, Arncliffe.

The work required drilling and installation of canopy tubes, tunnel excavation, and construction of a portal beam and shotcrete sloped arch.

Job Description

Canopy tube construction structures support surface infrastructure such as roads, railways and buildings. Usually, a tunnel or box culvert are driven beneath the supports, however in this case, a live railway line utilised by both freight and passenger trains was active above the construction area. Grouting of the steel casings fills inherent voids that are created during drilling of the strata.
